MEMBERSHIP
The
following information will help you in determining which category
you should apply for.
Professional Membership
MS Word 97 Application
Professionals
engaged in the field of Building Design.
Certified
Professional Building Designer Member: Those individuals who by
education, training, and have no less than five years experience
in the field of building design, and have passed the SPBD
comprehensive test. Certified Professional Building
Designer members are true responsible
professionals.

Submit completed SPBD application. Along with
application:

Submit three letters of recommendation from (architects,
engineers, clients, etc.)

Submit three complete sets of construction documents
prepared by applicant, with applicable specifications as you
typically supply.

Sit and Pass the SPBD examination. Test fee:
$150.00 (Non-Refundable).
(Date and location of test to be determined by the SPBD
Board of Directors.)
Intern
Member:
Individuals who are prospective Certified Professional Building
Designer members but lack technical qualifications or required
experience, have not yet passed the SPBD comprehensive test; but
are engaged in the profession of building design.
Allied Membership
Consist of
businesses, firms, or corporations whose interests are related to
the Building Design profession and supports the goals of the
SPBD.
Consultant
Class A:
Members are licensed
Architects, Engineers, or other licensed design professionals who
provide a service or assistance to the design
profession.
Consultant
Class B:
Members are ICC Certified
Building Officials and/or other affiliated
classification.
Affiliate: Membership consist of
professional or industry organizations whose primary function is
to supply products, materials, or services to the design and
construction industry.
Academic Membership
Student/Faculty
Academic:
Members are full-time students participating in courses of
instruction in the building design profession; professors or
instructors of subjects pertinent to the profession of Building
Design.
